Recruiting focus: Executive recruitment, Accounting & Finance
Extensive experience in recruitment methodologies, broad base of business understanding.
David is an accomplished recruiting and business professional who enjoys working with individuals, teams and organisations to recruit, develop and nurture positive, high performing people. With a background that started out in the five star tourism industry, David is committed to ensuring that HorizonOne continues to set the standard in Canberra for quality recruitment and consultancy services delivered with outstanding business ethics. David has come to HorizonOne with 12 years experience in the industry up to director level in a specialist, bespoke recruitment business and he has made a significant impact in a short space of time.
Understanding, partnership, value
David understands that the key to a successful recruitment process is to listen and really understand what's important to a person or an organisation. David says, 'I have seen many recruiters who are only capable of offering the standard "off the shelf service". Unfortunately this often results in a process that fails to satisfy the client or candidate objectives and wastes both time and money'..
HorizonOne employs a consultative approach to the work that they do which ultimately ensures a more consistent and cost effective result for our clients regardless of the complexity of the project.
Fine food, fun, family
Out of the office, David is a keen scuba diver and game fisherman and he has recently been indoctrinated into the rubber pants world of fly fishing. He also enjoys keeping fit and you might often see him riding around the lake with his wife and young daughter. Having travelled extensively within the tourism industry, David is also a keen cook who will happily jump in the kitchen and whip up a gourmet meal for friends.
An English accent?
Don't let the accent fool you. David is a proud Australian heralding from Queensland, and we are steadily beating the 'pom' out of him from his 10+ years living in London.

Recruiting focus: Accounting and finance
Leading accounting and finance recruitment professional
Simon is a leading recruitment professional with 8 years experience recruiting in Canberra's accounting and finance market. He prides himself on a deeper understanding across the accounting profession, and has a scarily encyclopaedic knowledge of organisations, clients and candidates throughout the region. If you are looking for an accounting and finance recruiter in Canberra and you have not met Simon, you need to!
Professional, analytical, thorough
Simon is a consulting professional who seeks to add value through all stages of the recruitment process. He partners with clients for the long term knowing that a recruiter's job is not done once the fee is paid. Analytical by nature and with a BSc in Psychology from ANU, he constantly seeks to know more about his clients, growing his knowledge base and increasing the value of his advice. The son of a chartered accountant, Simon has an irrepressible eye for detail allowing him to consistently deliver high quality results.
Honest, patient, genuinely cares for people.
Simon believes the more direct and honest communication can be when navigating through a recruitment process, the more successful will be the end result. He believes a sales approach with clients and candidates is short-sighted and holds the industry back from adding real value and from attracting talented people. Simon is fascinated by people and truly cares for the candidates and clients he works with. He is found regularly lending time and expertise for no return simply because he enjoys helping others.
Fun, funny (occasionally...), entrepreneurial
Simon is a sporty, social and well travelled character with a somewhat ‘overly active’ sense of humour. As a co-founder of HorizonOne he is playing out a long held desire to build his own business and to be a creative driver in a company.

The benefit to our clients is that this breadth allows Patrik to understand in-depth an organisation's needs and their people so he can consistently deliver practical, value-add advice. Add to this Patrik's 3 year's in professional recruitment and what our client's find is excellent results.
Passionate, energetic, dynamic
Patrik never does things in half-measures and his ability to keep many balls in the air without dropping them will be a blessing in the recruitment industry. When he feels like relaxing – Patrik builds things. Like setting up Canberra's first ever Scandinavian 'Floorball' competition, or co-establishing CPA Australia's Young Professional Network (YPN), or commencing a new commercial enterprise. With strong business acumen and creative flair, Patrik will be an asset to HorizonOne as we grow and develop into the future.
Sporty, fun... and Swedish?
Passionate about Ice hockey, Floorball and Soccer (and why anyone would want to watch cricket), Patrik is a talented Floorball player who is also known to sample the odd single-malt. When not with his family including three young children, Patrik can be found doing any of the above, or sometimes all at the same time. When meeting Patrik for the first time many ask the question 'American?', so we like to pre-empt this question with 'it's ok, he's Swedish!'

Recruiting focus: APS Policy, Programs and Procurement
Extensive Canberra recruitment and life experience
With more than ten years experience in Canberra’s recruitment industry, Lorena has strong expertise recruiting within the Australian Public Service particularly in the policy and program space, and at a range of levels. Lorena’s maturity and life experience enables her to read between the lines and understand the needs of her candidates and translate that into strong recommendations for clients. This ability has earned her a very loyal following amongst both employers and candidates, with much of her work coming from repeat business and referrals.
The people person
Lorena’s outgoing and positive personality enables her to quickly build rapport with people from all walks of life. But it’s her ability to be open and honest that gains people’s trust in her judgement. “I’m not going to simply place someone with an employer because it all looks good on paper,” she says. “If my instincts tell me there will be problems in the long term I’ll tell them and focus on finding a match that is going to work.”
Practicing what she preaches
After 10 years working for the same recruitment firm Lorena felt that in order to practice what she preaches she needed to move out of her comfort zone, broaden her horizons and strengthen her skill set. “I’ve loved the challenge of further honing my skills in contemporary recruitment methodologies with a company rapidly moving forward, whilst working for a place that still ‘feels like home’.”
Spice of life
Lorena’s passionate outlook also extends to her social life. On weekends you’ll either find her at a gathering organised by her large Latin American family, having cocktails with girlfriends, spending time with her grown-up children or doing all three at once! Her South American background certainly adds a different flavour to the team – literally – as Lorena often brings in home-made Chilean delicacies to the delight of her co-workers.

Recruiting focus:
Administration
Imogen joined HorizonOne in late 2011 and brings an impressive knowledge of the Administration sector to her role. Studies in psychology and public relations, and a fantastic work ethic, underpin her experience in the Australian Public Service and private sector. With a strong track record for achievement including receiving an Award of Excellence for her work with the ACT Government, ‘Imo’ is already setting new standards for development in our business. Recruitment has always held a fascination for Imogen, and she is revelling in the opportunity to learn all there is to know about the industry. She’s looking forward to building upon HorizonOne’s long term client relationships through developing an holistic understanding of their needs.
Enthusiastic, positive and focussed
Imogen is warm and energetic and loves to find out what makes people tick. Her bubbly personality helps her make connections quickly and effortlessly and she is embracing the chance to absorb new skills and build industry leading practices with HorizonOne. Focused and determined, she is not afraid of working hard to meet – and surpass – client expectations. A real go getter!
Fit for family
With a last name like Rizzo, you may have guessed that Imogen’s heritage is Italian – and when she’s not working, she loves spending time with family her friends and partner. If she’s not with la famiglia, you might find this ball of energy in the gym. Imogen loves keeping fit and healthy and believes an active body makes for an active mind.

Office Manager
Behind every great team, there is a great Office Manager – and HorizonOne certainly has one in Leanne. Joining the team in 2011 with a strong background in office administration and accounting, she quickly mastered the processes and systems of the busy office which supports our recruitment operations. Her calm, quiet personality is the glue that holds us together, keeps us in line, and allows our consulting professionals the room they need to deliver professional results.
Organised, Assertive and Professional
Leanne is constantly looking for ways to improve the way our business operates, applying her impressive brainpower to office issues (she won two Dean’s Excellence Awards during her university studies, thank you very much!). Dubbed our “Spreadsheet Guru”, Leanne hasn’t met an MS program she couldn’t master, and her high attention to detail means nothing – no matter how small – escapes her attention. The mother hen of the HorizonOne family, Leanne ensures our house is kept in tip top order (not to mention well stocked with tasty baked goods from her oven!)
Bitten by the tavel bug
When she’s not making sure the HorizonOne headquarters runs like clockwork, Leanne is probably planning her next overseas adventure. Two years in London meant the wonders of Europe were at her doorstep, and her passion for travel is strong. She recently spent a month ‘across the pond’ followed by a week in Vanuatu.

Team Administrator
Chances are the first voice you hear when you contact HorizonOne will be Nejla’s (pronounced Nehj-la) – she’s the friendly front door to the team and her excellent customer service ensures a great first impression. The office juggler, she’s at her happiest when she’s multi-tasking – an essential quality in the busy recruitment industry! When she’s not making sure the team is running smoothly, Nejla is studying Politics and International Relations at University; and is loving the quick-fire professional development that her role provides.
Happy, positive and patient
Nejla’s sunny personality and sense of humour puts callers and visitors to HorizonOne’s office instantly at ease. An eye for detail, calm under pressure, and love of organisation makes her a perfect fit for the Team Administrator role. The unofficial social secretary, Nejla is also keen to remind our busy and committed team that there’s always time for Friday afternoon drinks to celebrate a hard week’s work!
A real people person
Nejla isn’t only into providing valuable support at work – it’s also a big part of her personal life. A Young Adults Leader with her church, she loves meeting and finding out what makes them tick. She likes nothing better than curling up with a good biography, finding real stories much more interesting than fiction!
